First,  would just like to suggest that creating *one* policy for
breastfeeding. Ideally, it would incorporate the concepts in the famous Ten
Steps; step 9 addresses pacifiers. Resist the temptation to create a policy
for everything.

I don't think we can say that there are "dangers" to pacifiers. We have
several studies published in the past year or so that talk about the
adverse effects, but I'd just like to caution that none of them show a
cause-and-effect relationship.

I have an article on my web site about pacifiers that may be helpful.
Anyone can download it. I wrote it before the last 2 or 3 studies were
published, but those published in the last couple of months wouldn't change
my basic position or recommendations. Go to
