Greetings.... Our Peds have been using D10W in a gauze filled nipple to
help the baby boys deal with the pain of circumcision. The Docs think
it does a fine job....... I don't know if the baby boys agree!
I wonder if anyone else is concerned about the introduction of a finger
(gloved in a latex glove) being introduced into newborn mouths? I'm
seeing this as a routine thing in our nursery..... to soothe a crying
baby and/or do a suck assessment. I worry about possible implications
with breastfeeding (discussed here in the past). I also worry about
the exposure to latex at such an early age. A recent article in the
Sunday Parade magazine noted that latex pacifiers can be the cause of
respiratory symptoms in babies. Does anyone use non-latex gloves when a
suck assessment via digital method seems necessary? Susan
