Marian says: "Yet I've been told that since 1984 the US Government has
refused to fund research that disagrees with the widely accepted
assumption that hiv causes aids." Why? Maybe we can take a good look
at one government agency, the NIH(National Institute of Health). " It is
one of the world's foremost biomedical research centers and the Federal
focal point for biomedical research."(website quote)A part of the NIH is
the NIH Foundation which supports the mission of the NIH. They do this
by developing public-private partnerships to address needs unmet through
public funding. Chairman of the NIH Foundation is Charles Sanders,
M.D., retired Chairman and CEO of Glaxo Inc. Glaxo is an international
pharmaceutical company. Some of the other members on this committee come
from universities(Stanford, John Hopkins--these same universities are
participating in studies on HIV). Other members are from other
industries that are involved in medical technology(Chiron Corp.--biotech
company that does biopharmaceuticals, blood testing, vaccines). At the
web site for the NIH Foundation, I read about grants from Novartis and
Pharma--huge pharmaceutical companies. And grants from the Whitaker
Foundation which is a private sponsor of biomedical engineering
research. The Whitaker Foundation seems to be related to the company
AMP, Inc. which is part of Tyco International(global worth billions).

A scientist from Novartis in discussing ethics and biotechnology says,
"There is an assumption that science is neutral and objective." He goes
on to say that that assumption is incorrect. I would agree with him.
