I have never heard the expression "licking our dogs' paws", and have no
clue as to what it means. I'm curious.

"Whipping a tired horse" is just a homey old mideastern US slang phrase
that means you've gone inhumanly beyond the natural limit of a thing, and
if you don't watch out, you'll kill it (in everybody's mind, that is).
That means it's time to back off and give it a rest, and everybody will
be relieved!

It's Lactnet where I don't want to wear out my welcome. I find it such a
valuable forum for picking up ideas from others and sharing ideas with
those who pose questions about baffling cases. More rewarding yet, it
gives me a forum for "pontificating" (preaching?) about certain biases of
mine.

These have developed to the point that they are so self-evident to me
that I fervently want to share my ideas with others. And the feedback is
so prompt and helpful to my thought processes on some of my theories
which are still a work in progress.

Doing so in a professional journal is a complicated, long-suffering
process that requires the ideas be presented in a very stipulated
academic format with references, and I am not now, and I don't know if
I'll EVER be at that stage.

I'm only at the point where the Wright Brothers were when they were
running around Dayton area prairies strapped to gliders, yet to find the
right kind of breezes swooping over the North Carolina sand dunes. (Can
you tell Dayton is really getting ready to honor our famous townsmen for
the centennial of powered flight in 2003?)

I'm going to take this opportunity to personally express to all the
listmothers and list facilitators my own appreciation. I think it is
largely due to my stimulating lactnet experience that I have been able to
turn the emotional corner and heal since my husband died 18 months ago.

I thank all my Lactnet friends for their feedback whether they agree with
me or not, and in particular, I want to express my humble (really)
appreciation to the facilitators.
