<< Dear Lactnetters,
I received a call from the mother of a 14-month old this morning. She is
having health problems and has been to five different doctors who have told
her her health is being compromised because she is still breastfeeding her
baby. They have told her to wean and she does not want to.
Her baby nurses 6 times a day, sometimes as long as two hours at night. This
in addition to solids. The baby is in excellent health. After she nurses she
feels dizzy, fatigued, and has trouble with her memory. I think she would
benefit from talking with a lactation consultant who is also a physician or
nurse practitioner. This is beyond my comfort level for advising her. I
suspect there is a women's health issue here that is totally unrelated to
breastfeeding. (Has anyone ever heard of such a problem related to
breastfeeding?? I suspect NOT!)
I am hoping that someone who is an MD or nurse practitioner with good
familiarity with women's health issues will be willing to call this mother
in
Utah. If so, please email me privately, as I am NOMAIL. Write to me at:
<[log in to unmask]> and I can give you her phone number. Please respond
ASAP. She is very worried.
Thank you!
