I once watched as a very incensed 14 yr. old mother of a three month old
infant vented to all around that the clinic nurse had refused to
vaccinate her baby because it didn't weigh enough. She said that she
had told the nurse that "I ain' havin no fat baby!" and proceeded to
purchase a diet Coke from a vending machine, put it in a bottle and feed
it to her baby who looked like a days old baby.
What a statement about the ignorance that still abounds in a community
which is regarded as "affluent" for the most part.
It also tells us how powerful the message is to young girls that, at any
cost, never be overweight.
Sigh,
Denny
