If the baby has not stooled in the first 24 hours the ped is to refer to the
Pedi gastroenterologist he does a simple biopsy just inside the rectum .  It
can be diagnosed from that and this can be done before the baby leaves the
hospital.  One  problem is that not all Peds refer but wait for the baby to
stool --sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't and the diagnosis is
delayed.
