Hi everyone,
Well, I am back to let you know what has me bothered. Let me know what you
all think.
Our OB/GYN office (3 doctors in the practice) gave the New Year Baby a
CASE OF FORMULA!! Talk about unethical and cheap ( can I say that?), you
know that it probably didn't cost them anything to give that to her. But
they should not have given this without knowing for sure how the mother is
feeding. Actually, not at all in my book, but I know there are mom's who
might appreciate it. But this girl is a second time breastfeeding Mom.
Fully breastfed her son and is off to a great start with her daughter.
I guess I should have expected it from them because at my annual check-up,
2-1/2 years ago, I happened to mention that I was still nursing my 20 month
old. (He did ask how my children were doing.) Well, my OB proceeded to
lecture me on how useless that was, there are no longer any benefits to BF
past 4-6 months in western cultures, we have safe and sanitary conditions,
and children grow just fine without extended BF. I mentioned the AAP
statement to him but he continued with how they're really just worried about
people in unsanitary conditions, and how formula's have come such a long
way. AAGGHH!!! And he's only around 48 years old!
Anyway, I called the new mom and am giving her a baby sling and have offered
a free months rental of a breastpump, if she every feels she needs it and in
that way she won't ever, hopefully, have to use that formula. I
congratulated her on her child, and her choice!! Just trying to do my part
to Promote, Protect, and Support.
Thanks, I just had to share this with some fantastic folks, who might just
feel the same outrage that I did about this. I even called our editorial
page and they didn't feel it was important enough to mention, ah well. I
keep trying.
