I have a mom who called and left a message  wanting to know if she decreases
her fluid intake, can she decrease her amount of breastmilk? She said she is
trying to wean her 2 year old. Hmm...probably more to that story I thought.
Well, sure enough as I suspected, there was more to the story. This mom
really does not to wean, nor does her child. Her pediatrician had sent her to
an endocrinologist because the child was large in height and weight. After
meeting with the social worker, nutritionist and endocrinologist in the
office, they all decided it must be the breastmilk since the child's diet was
excellent(mom has been offering all the "right"  foods),  and  told her she
must wean at once. This poor mom is so sad, but feels guilty that she is the
one causing her child to be so big. (38 inches and 54 pounds). She is nursing
about 4 times per day.  I asked her about her family and she said her
husband's mother is 5'11, her husband is 6'2 and her husband's brother is
6'5. Sounds to me more like a heredity issue. If anyone has any thoughts or
experience with this, can you please let me know so I can pass it on to this
mom.
