I saw a mother who at 4-5 days postpartum pumped out about 10cc (double
pumping, so from both brteasts) of milk tinged a medium grey color. When I
talked to her the next day she said she had pumped once more and the milk was
still grey. It smelled like licorace to me so I thought "Aha", but she
denied eating
anything with licorace or anise in it. She also denied any recent use of
supplements, herbs, teas, or meds. She did say she had eaten quite a bit
of choclate in the previous 24 hours. What could turn milk grey? Does it
matter?
