Re: Milky Way
From The Dictionary of Classical Mythology
Page 194
Pierre Grimal Translated by A.R. Maxwell-Hyslop
"According to several traditions, Hermes put the baby to the goddess's
breast as she lay asleep. When she woke up, she pushed the child away, but
it was too late: the milk that spurted from her breast formed a trail of
stars in the sky, the Milky Way. Another tradition tells the take
differently. According to this version, Alcmene feared Hera's jealousy; as
soon as Heracles was born, she exposed him at a place in the Argos known
thereafter as the Plain of Heracles. Athena and Hera happened to be passing
by; and Athena, struck by the new-born baby's beauty and his vigour, asked
Hera to give him the breast. Hera did so, but Heracles sucked with such
force that he hurt the goddess. She flung him away from her , but Athena
picked him up and took him back to Alcmene, telling the young woman to bring
her child without any further fear."

And from
The Mythology of all Races Volume lV page 414
"A corresponding myth was known in the ancient Greeks, who declared the
Milky Way to have been formed when Hera snatched her breast from the mouth
of the infant Heracles, whom she hated, so that drops of milk were scattered
over the sky."
