Forgive me if this has already been discussed. Today all hosp.
depts. received a notice that any hosp. employ. coming into contact with
breastmilk, must wear gloves. The explanation for this is new quidelines
combining standard and universal precautions to "body subs. isolation",
excluding sweat only. Are your hosp. doing the same?
Also, we encourage our parents to read the NMC. Today we noticed that it
had lists of foods that may be of concern during breastfeeding. These
included the "gas prod. foods." I had learned during my LC education
that gas was caused by the fiber content of these foods and that fiber
in breastmilk was uneffected by mom's diet. Has this info. changed?
Thanks, Dawn Staudt-Vanek RN, IBCLC
