In regard to hospital JCAHO surveys, does anyone have an opinion on the
standard TX.4 that states all patients at nutritional risk are to have a
nutritional assessment and nutritional plan of care. One of the pts
listed as being at "nutritional risk" are pregnant and lactating women.
Our facility doesn't have enough dieticians to do all of the assessments
that are being required and it has been suggested that the lactation
consultant do all of the nutritional assessments and nutritional plans
of care for the lactating pts. (that would be ME and about 70% of our
250pts/month!). I don't feel qualified to do this, but am being told I
could get some additional "inservice/training" from the dietician, then
would be "trained" for the job. The diabetics, vegetarians, anorexic
could be lactating pts that I would refer to the dietician. What do you
all think? I am an RN also which my admin. believe makes me even more
qualified!
By the way I just became an IBCLC! Getting dumped on before my feet are
barely "wet".
