Hi. Whenever a mom asks me how often she should pump at work I suggest that
she figure out how often (approx.) the baby would be nursing if she were at
home.

If the baby nurses every 4 hours, I recommend that she pump every 3 1/2
hours. Basically I suggest this because IMO, no pump is as efficient as a
baby at getting milk out.

If a mom can sneak in an extra pumping (even if it's just for 8 or 10
minutes), I think it's a good idea.
Having that extra letdown at work can make a difference.

I also suggest that moms get their pumps at least 3 weeks before they go
back to work. This way, they can practice pumping, and build up a good
supply in her freezer. Basically, on Monday, she should not be pumping for
Tuesdays feedings - this is way too stressful for most moms.

Just my $ 0.02

Warmly,
