<She wondered about taking the reglan before the baby comes but I didn't
think it was necessary
or would work. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Anyone use thorazine to
increase milk?>

I wouldn't recommend using Reglan prenatally or immediately pp - for one
thing, it's not without side effects in mom and/or baby, the most
discouraging of which is that it tends to make the baby a little drowsy, and
therefore baby might have a harder time learning to nurse. Reglan is
commonly given pre-op in women having a C/S, as an adjunct to the anesthesia
(decreases nausea, may potentiate other intra-op drugs) - but someone
(sorry, can't recall who) just recently posted that they were seeing
negative effects of this in terms of early oversupply in mom. Maybe
fenugreek or some of the other herbal preparations would help, without the
side effects?

But, esp. since this time she's gained wt., etc. more "normally" prenatally,
I'd think that things might be better this time around. I myself would be
much happier with a "wait & see" approach (along with all the usual recs.
re: getting off to a good start, of course).

Thorazine: I know that it has a prolactin-stimulating effect, but, having
seen what it does to people who are medicated with it, I wouldn't touch it
with a ten-foot pole! It's a very potent CNS (Central Nervous System)
tranquilizer - like it's what they give a shot of to people who are on a
violent rampage, among other uses - and it is expressed into milk. Hale says
there may be ("controversial" is the word he uses) concerns that it may
increase the risk of SIDS. (It is of the class of drugs that the woman in
wherever-it-was used to relactate to nurse the monkey, though, so other
countries must have some forms or uses for it as a galactogogue.) Can't
imagine that any doc in the US would prescribe it for this purpose!
