I have a home visit program that is hospital-based, and we provide home
visits to new families. When home phototherapy is indicated, we have been
referring to a home health agency in town, who has the type that wraps
around the belly. Recently, our hospital has opened a home medical
equipment store, and we have purchased two BiliBeds. So, I am in the middle
of writing policies, etc. Our home visit nurses will go to the home and
draw the repeat bili if I have enough RN availabililty the day it is
ordered. However, if our schedule is full, we have the mom bring the baby
into the hospital. We are hoping to be ready to go up and running November
1. The home medical companies in our communities send out respiratory
therapists to set up the home phototherapy units. We plan to follow that
protocol, and have discussed that with the company from whom we purchased
the lights. We don't have all the quirks worked out, yet, but am excited
about this new opportunity! Susan, I'll keep you up to date as to our
progress!
