I guess I don't so much care about the issue from the standpoint of
population control (here in US or elsewhere) as I do about child survival
and improved maternal status. I think that the association between better
infant health and improved survival via breastfeeding are good things, and
any secondary benefits in terms of balancing population are interesting. I
really appreciated Kathy Dettwyler's more complete analysis of the issues on
the population end of things. I had only read the one article on the issue.
