Pat,
If you haven't already done so, I would go back and look very closely at
latch and suck. Does mom's nipple come out of baby's mouth round, or some
other shape?  Digital suck assessment..... do you feel tightness, clamping,
anything aberrant? If my finger feels uncomfortable in a baby's mouth, I
know why mom's nipples feel worse. I've seen this kind of pain radiate
through the breast, as if there is nerve damage that is being aggravated.
And, it can be different from one breast to the other.

While "burning" tends to be reminiscent of yeast, all that burns isn't
always yeast. Since pumping is pain free, I would be suspicious of a
mechanical cause.
