i think that as long as hospitals take any person regardless of
qualifications and use such terms as "lactation nurse" "lactation specialist"
and "lactation consultant (with or without IBCLC)" to describe them, and
allow people to be giving out breastfeeding advice regardless of
qualifications, then we will continue to see clients who were given poor
information and think they were told so by an IBCLC. however, i must add that
plenty of people with IBCLC after their names are glibly telling mothers to
use formula without what i would consider fully informed consent (especially
in hospitals), but then i have whined about both of these issues before.
