pg. 546 of 1999 book, Medications in Mother's Milk. Phentermine is an
appetite suppressant. Tom says it has a small molecular weight and probably
transfers readily into br. milk. "The use of this product in breastfeeding
mothers would be difficult to justify and is not advised." In other words,
go to Weight Watchers or some such support group for weight loss help! 1/2
life is 7-20 hours, peak is 8 hours. Drug is CNS stimulant. Probably more
dangerous if baby was newborn, but since 9 mo old 24 hours seems reasonable
to me to resume BF. Just my opinion...Sincerely , Pat in SNJ
Commercial disclaimer: I have no financial interest or otherwise in
Pharmasoft. I personally think that the cost of "Medications in Mother's
Milk" is modest enough that everyone should own as current a copy as
possible. Saves oddles of time and grief while trying to find an answer
for a mom. I personally pass my older copies on so someone who can't
afford them at least has a recent basis from which to start. There should
be thousands of his books in circulation. If you are keeping older copies,
consider passing them on.
