Dear Johanna,
Both giardia and dientamoeba are intestinal parasites and are not generally ever found in the blood and therefore would not be found in breastmilk. Both infections are usually treated with flagyl which was once thought to be contraindicated while breastfeeding, but is now quite widely used to treat mothers and babies. Look in the archives for more information - has been much discussed in previous years.
Warmly,
Sharon Knorr, BSMT, IBCLC
