Elise,
One of the simplest things to consider might be an antifungal ointment
both to rash under breasts and on areola. Under the breasts, especially
pendulous breasts, is a notorious place for yeast to get a foothold.
Has this mom had any antibiotics since conception? If it is yeast, it is
conceivable it may have have been spread to areola. Perhaps only on the
lower part because of slight leakage that would make better medium there?
If effective, than a thorough review of hygiene issues re: the
source/spread of candida.
Another thing to consider, automatically for any rash/itchiness in
pregnancy Skin is more delicate and may be more subject to allergic
dermatitis. Using 1/2 cup of vinegar in the last rinse, perhaps the last
of a double rinse, in loads with bras, undies and towels removes every
last little bit of detergent that might reactivate if moistened by
perspiration. And no softener in washer or dryer, which will
automatically disperse the odor of vinegar.
Hope these suggestions help.
Jean
