Wednesday, I attended at very lively pediatric departmental meeting at one of
the hospitals in my town. We had a spirited dialogue about "Breastfeeding
Management" problems. Several expressed their doubts about the benefits of
breastfeeding, the need to have adolescent moms nurse their babies among
other things.
I kept my cool and expressed that we should have a local CME to bring the
physician community up to date about Breastfeeding Management. One of my
colleagues wanted a "Point-Counterpoint" talk using his "data" from the
recent 20/20 and 60 minutes stories on failed Breastfeeding. We all agreed
that we need to bring an outside physician expert to address these issues.
Okay any of you Breastfeeding Physician Mavens want to come to Modesto,
California and do the Breastfeeding Dance? I know we have lots of stuff in
the archive on educating MDs. However if anyone has additional ideas please
e-mail me directly.
My next step, to develop a curriculum for the local FP residency program.
One of the many things I am grateful for on Thanksgiving,
Pierrette Mimi Poinsett, MD, FAAP
Modesto CA
