Background: triplets born at 24 weeks on 8/1/99 via surrogate. Mom
inducing lactation. After a very uphill battle, babies are now
receiving banked breastmilk.
I went to the NICU with mom yesterday, the 2 boys are now able to
kangaroo! Even though it was tough with all of the apparatus in place,
we got the little 1.5 pounder in the right spot in hopes that the
snuggling would help moms milk come in better and that little guy
promptly began rooting and licking, energetically! We are talking
gestational age 28 weeks! Obviously mom was thrilled. Also wonderful
was the respiratory therapist who came over to observe and remarked,
"wow, he really likes that, his oxygen sat is 100%! (perfect, and better
than usual) Once he can get the breathing apparatus off and the feeding
tube out of his mouth, I think this little guy will really go to town!
