I guess I missed the original post, but the thread seems to be whether a
supply is important to a 3 year old following a separation. Well...
My first child weaned at the end of my second pregnancy, at 2 3/4, following
a week when he was too busy with visiting relatives to want to nurse at all.
I had very little milk at that point, and when the company left and he
wanted to nurse, it was pretty clear he didn't know how. End of story.
My second was 2 1/2 when I was hospitalized for a month and a half. We
nursed once a week for that month and a half, he knew *exactly* what he was
doing, and when I got home we continued to nurse until he was, um, 6 or 7,
somewhere in there. But I don't think I ever heard him swallow again.
For one child, a week's hiatus and a low supply were enough to terminate it.
For another at the same age, a month and a low supply didn't dent his ardor
in the least. Diff'rent strokes...
