I am very inclined to think that the last thing Heather mentioned - that
women in other societies have seen many, many breastfeeding babies over
their lifetimes - is a big factor in avoiding sore nipples. These women have
an inner "picture" of how babies breastfeed that they don't even have to
think about, because they've seen it so many times.

In our society, the image most new mothers have in their unconscious minds
is of a baby being fed from a bottle. I've watched so many new mothers try
to hold the baby in a "bottlefeeding" position and "feed" the breast to
him - and they don't even realize they are doing it.
