Wouldn't we be better served by concern over the level of cigarette smoke
this baby must have been exposed to (both prenatally & after birth) than by
attempting to link the death to BFing (on the sofa or anywhere else)? Anyone
who is so addicted to cigarettes that she has to have a smoke before taking
action upon finding her baby dead must have maintained a household with a
pretty high "fog level", it seems to me. (NOT being judgmental or
moralistic, just aware that maternal smoking poses a far greater risk to
babies than does being nursed on the couch!)

After all, the 3 identified modifiable risk factors in SIDS are sleep
position, exposure to cigarette smoke, and *lack* of BFing.
