Hi all,

I received this note from Jim Akre of WHO. He encouraged me to pass it on...

Yesterday's International Herald Tribune (19 August 1999) carried a small item
on page 3 (American Topics) as follows:

"The Pentagon, acknowledging the growing presence of women in its ranks, has
set
aside a small room for use by nursing mothers to extract breast milk for their
babies to consume later. The curtained room is equipped with three breast
pumps
at $1,200 apiece.

"Nationwide, about 300 corporations have now made similar commitments to
nursing
mothers. Minnesota became a pioneer last year when it required employers to
provide employees time and a room, other than a bathroom stall, for milk
extraction. Other state legislatures are weighing similar steps."

One might have preferred "express" in place of "extract", and presumably only
the Pentagon pays $1200 for a breast pump (!), but it is nevertheless nice to
see "The World's Daily Newspaper" provide this sort of coverage.

Perhaps a nice congratulatory note or two would offer appropriate
encouragement.
