I think that your sister's production is fine for the moment, considering
that she is producing much more than the baby requires. To increase
production, I would encourage her to pump more frequently (every 3 hours
during waking hours, if possible). I would advise her to turn the alarm off
at night. She needs a good night's sleep. If she can have a picture of
the baby in front of her while she pumps, that will help, too. Applaud her
efforts and give her your permission to relax. Make sure she gets a break
from the NICU environment. Encourage her husband to take her out to dinner
a nice dinner. Her production should increase as she takes time to care
for herself and as her infant's needs increase.
