I do use the 0 to 10 pain scale. The 0 is no pain at all and the 10 is the
worst pain you can imagine or have experienced. Anything 5 or over is a
major concern and even a 4 if other indicators are there. Usually the moms
who are having big troubles consistently rate a 7. Then when we fix the
latch (the usual problem) it goes to a 4 right away. Once the nipples are
damaged, scabbed etc it usually will not go right down to a 0 til some
healing occurs, in my experience.
