I think this subject has been milked (no pun intended) sufficiently, but just
had to add something I haven't seen (just got back on after being nomail for
a couple of months, so may have missed something). One line I have been
known to use is "I think Ms. X must have misunderstood you. She thinks you
said ..." Those of you who are RNs will recognize this as vintage
"doctor-nurse game". Others may think it's just plain wimpy. But there are
times it can be effective. And, occasionally it's even true. Sometimes HCPs
will unthinkingly say something that a vulnerable mom will misinterpret.
Other times, it can be an opening for educating a doc.
