We simply don't carry them. Yes, some moms bring the coupon to the
hospital and ask. We use it as an opportunity to educate them about the
baby friendly initiative. I tell them "when hospitals give out formula
bags, women are likely to wean earlier...this is research based fact."
The light goes on.
If they really want the bag...they can call the manufacturer and have it
mailed to them. This puts the "selling" back in the hands of the
manufacturer. Keep a 1-800-number handy and send dad out to the desk to
get it.
Under no circumstances should we be apologizing for not having these
bags! It is not our job to market formula and...when parents see that
side...they are supportive. I've had several go back to complain to
their OBs after I explained what these bags do.
