WELL! Have any of you out there seen the latest on the
news? My good friend, who breastfed her daughter with CP
for 18 mos, saw a distressing news item last night on
television. Apparently a young woman was convicted of (I'm
not sure what) for breastfeeding her baby who died of
starvation. The story went that baby was healthy at birth
and mom was BF, but had a history of breast reduction
surgery and baby wasn't getting enough milk. Baby was
starving and too weak to suckle according to mother's
friend. Baby died, mother was charged and convicted, and
part of her sentence now is to speak to groups about THE
DANGERS OF BREASTFEEDING!!!!
Please tell me that my friend misinterpreted the news!
We are both appalled with this sentence, as we are firm
believers in the benefits of breastfeeding.
Anyone see this on the news last night?
