La Leche League leaders are volunteers. They are moms who have breastfed
over a year and show a special knoledge and interest not only in
breastfeeding, but in helping others moms in the art of breastfeeding.
Leaders usually give phone counseling and carry out monthly support groups
(LLL Meetings). Some leaders go beyond that, and do home visits, or the
mothers visit their homes...but this is up to the leader (if she likes to).
They do not charge for their services, but sometimes they ask for donations
for their group in exchange. If a mother wants to join LLL (become a
member) there is a $30 fee in which the mother receives a magazine called
"New Beginnings"...but you dont have to be a member to receive assistance by
a LLL Leader.
