Heather -- here was me thinking that the main gripe is that midwives still have
*no* idea how to recognise effective positioning *themselves* -- ;-^  -- maybe
you have better training of m/ws in Newcastle????

Around here I still get mothers reporting -- 'well the midwife took a glance at
me while I was feeding and said all was fine'.  (Sounds like my approach to car
mechanics -- not known for its efficacy in keeping the car on the road).
