Many children are killed or suffer terrible brain damage each year from
bicycling and rollerblading. The response: Encourage the use of safety
equipment, helmets, reflective stickers, etc. Thousands are killed or
badly hurt in car accidents. Response: Educate parents on the use of
carseats and seatbelts. Some children have died while sleeping in
parents beds by getting wedged between mattresses and walls or
mattresses and head/footboards. Response: Educate parents about safe
methods of co-sleeping and possible hazards to avoid. No? Oh, I guess it
would be best to just prohibit co-sleeping altogether? Of course, that
makes perfect sense. NOT!
