I am posting for a colleague who is not on-line.

The woman she is supporting is feeding her second baby. Fed her now
five-year-old for 4 months. The baby is refusing the breast, etc, sounded
thrush-like, but before my colleague could see them, the baby was admitted to
hospital.

One of the woman's breasts 'gives her a lot of trouble' since, some 20 years
ago, she had a 'very deep' staph infection, treated with long-term antibiotics.
There is scar tissue and discolouration and 'it gives her trouble'. (Pls bear
in mind that this is what the woman told my colleague, who has told me, so
unable to supply better details). It sounds like some possible long-term damage
to the breast???

I think what is worrying my colleague is that none of the medics -- midwife,
health visitor, hospital people -- are in the least bit interested in this
breast's history and its impact on feeding.

I said that I would post to ask if anyone has any expereince of previous
infection of this kind impacting later breastfeeding and if there are any tips
for this situation. (We have talked about feeding from one breast only,
reducing supply to do that with comfort, and about getting her to insist on
seeing a breast specialist -- tho maybe not at the moment, with baby in
hospital, feeding unresolved and just after a section!)

TIA
