Re: mother in Carmen's BF support group who's BFing really well @ 1 mo.,
announced her desire to wean "because her sister is breastfeeding more than
1 year and she does not want to breastfeed this long".
Maybe she's telling you that she really hates BFing, and that she wants to
stop but doesn't have an "acceptable" reason to present to you & the group.
It concerns me when we ("we" meaning any or all of us, as breastfeeding
supporters)ride right over what a woman tells us she wants to do. I mean you
absolutely no disrespect, Carmen, and it sounds like you handled it very
well in front of a bunch of other people; I just worry when we talk about
women weaning "prematurely" almost as much as when we hear others talk of
breastfeeding "too long". Who are we to say what's too early or too long?
I know we have science on our side, and god knows I have a full
understanding of the reasons why a month of BFing is "not enough". But I can
never help thinking that maybe, in any given situation, a month might
represent a major victory for that mother or that baby. Know what I mean? Or
am I just splitting hairs here?
