Pat in SNJ writes,

<< That said- I recommend olive oil or salad oil, if mom has no lanolin in
home for use in between feeds when mom is using Nystatin. I find Nystatin
is very drying to the nipples. Oil applied after a feed won't be there by
the next feed. My favorite line is that they aren't buttering bread, use
oil or lanolin sparingly, rub in. Sincerely, Pat in SNJ

I'd be careful about salad oil. There are documented cases of allergies to
ingredients in regular salad oil (Wesson, corn oil) etc. I've not seen any
documentation of allergies to olives -- anyone else? Olive oil has been used
for millenia for a variety of things for babies. It makes a great lubricant
when moms are pumping if they need anything. And it does help for sore or
cracked nipples. Nothing like correcting position & Latch, but face it --
cracks happen, and they need healing.

Anything in the literature? Not that I know of.

But it certainly is great on pieces of french bread, sprinkled with a good
parmesan cheese....
