Susan, can you tell me where you have found information to back up these
suggestions? I ask as this has become big debate on some of the message
boards on AOL. My understanding is (from the info in the Breastfeeding
Answer Book) that the mother can change the "types" of fats in her breastmilk
depending upon what kinds of foods she gets her fats from (for example red
meats) But they have done studies and even the milk from malnourished
mothers and the milk from well nourished mothers still produced relatively
the same amount of fat. The only woman that ingesting high fat foods would
alter the fat content of their breastmilk would be if the mother was
"severely malnourished".
