"Honestly, if a person eats everything
Dr. Brewer (see below) recommends, there's not much room left for chips
and chocolate."
Having followed Dr. Brewer's diet - and the recommendations in
Elizabeth Nobel's book HAVING TWINS, I have to agree that there's not
room for empty-calorie foods! Although following this diet may not
prevent PIH is *some* patients IMO those particular women would be more
inclined to present much earlier with this problem if they did not
follow the diet. I can't help but wonder if poor nutrition, especially
in women pregnant with multiples, contributes to the high rate of
prematurity.
I was obsessive with my diet when I was pregnant with my twins. I did
not comply with the standard "bed-rest from 24 to 34 weeks" that my ob
orders for all of his moms-with-multiples and had absolutely no
pregnancy related problems with PIH or anything else. I was delivered
at 38 wks due to breech/transverse positions and set the birth weight
record for twins (in my hometown of Athens, GA) at 9.2 and 8.6.
