Dear Laura, I agree, WIC supplies aren't breastmilk, but they are better
than the alternative. We have to just keep working on the breast is best
theme. Every Wic baby that gets a feeding, a day, a week, a month etc of
breastfeeding is better for it and maybe mom will nurse longer with next
baby. Middle class me went through a progression until I suceeded (2 1/2
weeks, 2 1/2 months, 2 1/2 years :-). This was back in the early 60's.
Almost all my daughters, dil, nieces have breastfed for varying amounts of
time - mostly longer :-) Breastfeeding is empowering and as these young
WIC moms catch on they will spread the word in their culture. Things will
change, slower than we like, but they will. Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
