I have a mom who is getting a 2-day-old (as of today) baby for adoption. She has permission to breastfeed him but the adoption agency wants to know if there is anything the baby can pass on to the adoptive mom (she is also nursing her one-year-old). They have a good medical history on the mom and can get more tests done, if needed. They know a little about the dad, who is around and will be signing papers before the baby is placed. The baby was born in a hospital and was thoroughly checked over.
Is there anything written about babies passing something of concern to mom? I know I have a tape of a tv show about how babies passed AIDS to breastfeeding moms in Russia (thrush from HIV in baby and bleeding nipples would make a plausible pathway). We should be able to get HIV info about the mom easily enough. Is there anything else we should be looking for?
Please reply to me and the list as I need to give the mom what info I can quickly.
