Sounds like a great research project to me! Take breastfeeding statistics from a few WIC clinics around the country and then have them stop handing out all formula while continuing their breastfeeding promotion. I wonder if more mothers will choose to breastfeed, mothers will water-down the formula they buy or feed other non-appropriate foods or if less mothers will sign up for WIC. Breastfeeding mothers tend to not sign up the baby as soon since they do not need the formula right away so if WIC is no longer giving out formula, would mothers still sign up for the other foods? I guess we could not convince the FEDS to give their blessings to such a project.
