Hi all,
Can't help but respond to this one...
In my area of the Deep South USA, WIC does indeed purchase massive
quatities of ABM. This is one of those circumstances where it may be too
early to complain to your congressman.
In my area, WIC is also working hard to educate mothers, physicians, and
anyone who will listen about the superiority of Breastmilk. In this
area, the education and conversion process is VERY SLOW, especially
among WIC clients. If WIC were not providing ABM for these babies, they
would probably be drinking Kool-Aid or some such. Regular milk is very
expensive, I am not sure that all of these families would even purchase
it and water it down.
While I agree that Breast is Best, and have been impressed with the
progress the WIC Breastfeeding program is making in my community, I am
convinced that if the ABM supplying program was abandoned, our infant
mortality rates would sky-rocket. I hear WIC nutitionists begging
caregivers not to water down the formula to "stretch" it to the end of
the month. There are worse things for babies than ABM.

Who would never have believed in a million years she would ever defend
ABM!
Ouch!!!
