Breastmilk (with fortifier for tiny preemies) has been shown in numerous
studies to be best for preemies.  If the baby can be fed orally, he/she can
receive breastmilk.  The neonatologist needs some updates on recommended
feeding practices.   The most recent article is in Pediatrics, June 1999, pg
1150 "Fortified Human Milk vs Preterm Formula" by Richard Schanler MD et al.
Shows that HM feeding decreases length of stay (and costs) for preemies and
reduces complications, once again.
Hopefully, Dr. Wight will reply to your posting also--she's got a lot of
experience with human milk in preemies, as does Paula Meier in Chicago.
