Speaking of thanksgiving dinners...

If I eat a big meal (especially if it involves dairy) **and then take
a nap**, a few minutes after I get up I can't even stand up straight.
Gas cramps bend me right over and can last up to an hour. (The only
position that's comfortable at that point is on elbows and knees, so I
just get out the newspaper, spread it on the floor, and read until
I'm able to stand up again.)

If I stay upright and active after eating, it doesn't happen. Period.

I've always wondered if some of the painful-seeming fussiness in some
babies (maybe especially those with a dairy sensitivity) is a result
of feeding them on the American plan (large meal every 2-3 hours),
then laying them down and leaving them motionless. Do those same
babies seem to be in as much pain if they're either held upright or
put in a sling upright and toted around until their next snack??
