Did anyone see the article in the paper about how men and women may have
dramatically different reactions to medications, yet very few drugs have
been studied to determine proper dose according to sex? Dr. Marietta
Anthony of the National Institutes of Health states that until this point,
it has been assumed that one drug, one dose was right for all individuals.
New evidence shows that morphine works better for women in controlling pain
than it does for men. Ibuprofen is more effective for men than women.
Aspirin works better as a blood thinner for men than for women. Women can
metabolize many drugs 20-50% faster than men.

We have always known that people in general react differently to
medications, but I have not seen it divided by gender before. I am
wondering if one reason we see many baby boys with more problems after birth
medications is that they cannot metabolize the medications as quickly as the
girls. Interesting to think about, anyhow.
