Yeasterday I had a "sort of" uncomfortable situation.  I have this mother
that has come to my prenatal class, and also to my weekly support group,
who's doing great!!!  Has a 1 month old who gained 4 pounds in a month; that
takes more than 3 ounces at the breast per feeding (digital scale); the
mother expresses 10 ounces at a feeding!!!...and still, she is asking me
about weaning, because her sister in law is breastfeeding more than a year
and she does not want to breastfeed this long.

First thing she asked me was what kind of formula was similar to
breastmilk...which I replied NONE!!!  Then she told me her intentions to
wean.  All the other mothers were in shock...since in my support group more
than often I see mothers with problems (poor weight gain, prematures, poor
latch on...and things like that)...this mother usually comes to see how much
the baby eats at a feeding....which is fine with me if this is what keeps
her nursing.

I spoke to her for a while (while the others listened) and she agreed that
she would breastfeed till the baby gets to be 6 months (I told her that when
that time came, if she was still interested in weaning, I would help
her...and not to start artificial milk...love to use that word!!!...while in
my mind was the idea, that by that time she will be "hooked" and given the
idea up...ja,ja,ja).

Just felt weird,,,with a room full of mothers with lots of problems, and the
only one without problems is the one that is thinking of giving up...
