Like Susan, I often wondered why Jesus would be "laid in a manger" on such a night, so soon after birth.
Last year after the Boca Raton conference, I visited Our Lady of La Leche (the shrine from which La Leche League was named) and bought a statue of Our Lady breastfeeding the baby Jesus. Maybe those of us with a Christmas Nativity set can replace the Mary and the baby-in-the-manger pieces with these statues (they come in all white and painted) for a more realistic scene.
To continue the religious theme, at the LLLI Conference in Wash. DC, a church service was held in honor of the Founders. This Priest was a relative of one of the Leaders in the area. In the opening of the service, the Priest processed into the auditorium and up to the alter. He picked up a little statue on the alter and an amused smirk came on his face. I knew then that the statue had to be Out Lady of La Leche. It was so fitting!
